Reading Proverbs daily will help you find biblical wisdom, truth, and beauty in a busy and distracting world.
There are some daily habits that will change your life. Over the past few years as a mom, I’ve found that reading the Bible every day is DEFINITELY one of those habits! And over the past few months, I’ve started reading the Proverbs every day too…
… And I love it.
Do I miss a few days a month? Of course. Is the book of Proverbs the only Bible reading I do each day? Usually not. Am I finding that God is changing me through this daily Proverbs reading?
You bet He is!
God is so good. So faithful. Today, I want to share a few thoughts on why reading Proverbs daily is meaningful and what my experience has been as I’ve started doing this.

Are you reading Proverbs daily?
Reading the Bible connects you to God Himself. The Maker of the universe. The One who knit you together inside your mother’s womb. The only Person who is fully good, truly beautiful, always wise, and shows you unfailing love.

But really, you can read anywhere in the Bible and it can be valuable! In many ways, there is no bad place to start!
My favorite way to read the Bible is to do an in-depth study of one book at a time. Sometimes, I use an outside Bible study book with it, which can be great. Other times, it’s just me + my Hope Planner + the Bible.
When I do this, though, I miss out on some of the books of the Bible that aren’t really written to be read and studied this way. Mostly, I miss the Psalms and Proverbs!
Those two books are easy to read and are FILLED with wisdom, encouragement, and hope… but they are not a story or letter to easily study.
That’s why I’ve added to my daily Bible reading with a short-and-sweet chapter of Proverbs every day
How I read Proverbs each day
Proverbs is a very unique book in the Bible. Instead of a storyline to follow or a lot of culturally-specific things to consider, we get short and simple truths.
(Of course, simple does not always mean easy.)
Every day, alongside whatever book of the Bible I may be studying, I like to read the chapter of Proverbs that matches to that date.
If it’s August 13, I’ll be reading Proverbs chapter 13. The whole chapter.
It really only takes a few minutes of time. I don’t study each verse in depth or try to memorize the whole thing.
In most of the chapters of Proverbs, each verse can stand alone. It’s not a story to follow. So, when I read Proverbs each day, I like to either take note in my Hope Planner of a theme or biblical principle that I can think about more deeply, that stands out to me, or that I want to reflect on for the rest of the day.
That’s it.
At least for me, reading Provers daily is pretty easy! Not a lot of time, no deep studying necessary, and there is always wisdom and encouragement to walk away with.
Why reading Proverbs daily is worth it
There are a lot of benefits from reading ANY part of Scripture.
And reading Proverbs daily gives 3 really big benefits for all of us –
- You get straightforward reminders of what God values and what’s important. We live in a distracting world. Proverbs cuts to what is most important.
- Similarly, you get simple truths about what is good and wise (and on the flip side, what is bad and foolish). Social media and so many places will try to tell you what is good, but all that really matters is what God says is true.
- You also get great Bible verses to pray! Every day, I pray for myself and my family just by reading Proverbs out loud as a prayer. Using Scripture for prayer is so incredible.
Reading God’s Word daily
I’m busy. I know you are too! And I want to be intentional about how I use my time.
If I want a happy marriage, a great relationship with my kids, and for my days to be purposeful and meaningful, I can’t just be wasting time here and there and everywhere.
The Bible keeps me on track – and reading Proverbs daily is a really helpful part of that!
I love the constant reminders each day of what is good, true, wise, and important. Proverbs helps me to know God better and to make better decisions all day long.
And the best part of reading Proverbs daily? It builds on itself!
God’s wisdom does not change year-by-year. He is not influenced by our cultural norms or what the hot trends are today.
That is the wisdom I want. The steadiness, faithfulness, and rootedness that I need.
That’s why I read Proverbs daily – and why you should too.
