3 Ways A Christmas Family Devotional Is Important

Instead of a rushed holiday season, you can use a Christmas family devotional to keep everyone focused on the true meaning of Christmas.

Looking for some meaningful family Christmas ideas?

The holiday season can feel rushed and stressful. But it’s about so much more than presents, events, and just-the-right family photos!

Christmas is about Jesus. It’s about family. It is a time to come together, enjoy family relationships, and celebrate the reality of the gospel and the birth of Christ.

There are some great Advent calendars, Christmas cookie recipes, and plenty more ideas out there for your family Christmas. But if you want the true meaning of Christmas to be at the center of your family holidays… have you thought about using a family devotional this year?

A Christmas family devotional is a special way to bring everyone together AND keep Jesus at the center of the holiday season.

Intentionally preparing your family for Christmas

In the church calendar, Advent is the season leading up to Christmas Day. Some churches celebrate it, and some don’t even mention it anymore. But the language doesn’t really matter. The important idea is that it benefits us to intentionally prepare our hearts for Christmas.

Because the holiday season is so busy, you have to make an effort to keep your family focused on the things that really matter at Christmas.

Each family has their own special holiday traditions. The events, movies, or foods that really make it feel like Christmas for your family.

Do those traditions include the Bible? Prayer? Church? If you’re looking for Christmas ideas for your family that are deep and meaningful, a devotional is a great idea.

Why is a Christmas family devotional a great idea?

As you prepare your family for Christmas, consider 3 key reasons why a Christmas family devotional is important and helpful.

It gathers your family together.

There’s something about snuggling up together on the couch or sitting together around the table that bonds our family together. Gathering together around the same activity, the same goal, the same task helps you deepen your relationship.

You can enjoy Bible time... together.

Sometimes, it’s hard to know where to start with a Bible reading or how to do a family devotional time. The holidays are a natural time to try this out! And with everyone reading the same thing, it’s so much easier to discuss and talk about what God is doing.

Your family will build a deeper connection.

Because a devotional will offer reflection questions and prayer ideas, it is so much easier to start a meaningful family conversation. Instead of reviewing their wish list again and again, your kids can reflect on things that are truly, deeply important.
