We are shaped by who (or what) we praise, and it has a powerful impact on who we are and how we approach Christian family life.
Does it really matter why we praise God?
In Psalm 93, we see such a beautiful picture of praise to our God and King.
But can we really get “action steps” for our life today when we read psalms like this? When we just pause and focus on praising God?
Absolutely! These types of Bible passages are NOT separate from our everyday lives. In fact, what we praise will directly shape who we are, what we do, and how we approach family life.

Psalm 93 shows us how to praise God
Psalm 93 is a short and beautiful psalm of praise.
But I think with these types of Bible verses, which don’t really mention us or include commands or encouragements for how we should live our lives and make decisions, can confuse us.
These type of Bible verses can feel separate from real life.
Like, “wow, what a beautiful song of praise to God!” but we don’t necessarily see it impacting who we are, how we live, or what our families look like.
Friends, this is a mistake.
It’s a mistake that I make all the time, and perhaps you make it from time to time also.
Actually, this is part of why I love taking time each summer to specifically pause, look at the Psalms, and seek wisdom for my day to day life… no matter what the topic of any particular psalm is focused on.
So let’s look at this short psalm of praise together. We will find that it actually does give us great wisdom for our daily lives as moms and wives!
We praise God because He is worthy of praise
Why should we praise God?
The answer really is quite simple. We should praise God because He is worthy of our praise!
There are only 5 verses in little Psalm 93, and they all focus on the holiness and majesty of God.
- We see that the LORD reigns and is robed in majesty (verse 1).
- He is armed with strength (verse 1).
- He is eternal (verse 2).
- We see that all of creation is praising God, with a special focus in verses 3 and 4 on how the seas praise God with their thunderous and mighty waves.
- The psalm closes in verse 5 with a focus on the holiness and strength of God’s statutes: his laws stand firm and “holiness adorns [his] house for endless days.”
Does this praise impact our lives today?
Absolutely.
We praise God, and it shapes us in the right ways
Earlier this month, we looked at Psalm 101 and the reality that when we lift praise to God, it shapes how we then move forward and live our daily lives.
Psalm 93 can, and should, do exactly that.
If we consider the truth that the Lord reigns, sitting majestically on the throne, and that He has been in this position of authority since even before time began and shall continue there for all of eternity… won’t this shape how we live our lives?
The Lord’s power, strength, majesty, and authority should influence every daily decision we make.
- How do I parent my children?
- How do I speak with my husband?
- What shows should I watch?
- What songs should I listen to?
- Should I use social media and for what purpose?
If the Lord speaks, I must listen, and I must obey.

If the seas and all of creation praise God by doing what He has created them to do… doesn’t my own obedience to the Lord’s commands matter also?
The seas praise God by lifting up their pounding waves. When I consider my identity as a wife, mom, and woman… when I help my children understand the world around them that God has created… these things bring praise and glory to God if they are grounded in his truth.
I don’t get to decide that truth. God decides.
There is a right way for seas to behave, and a right way for me to behave. This not only brings God glory, but it brings me joy, peace, and purpose as I live rightly for the Lord.
If the Lord’s statutes stand firm, and his holiness is endless and eternal… won’t those statutes shape how my home functions?
- Do I know the Lord’s statues and teach them to my children?
- Have I truly accepted God’s Word as good and true, and am I trying to live by it?
- Is the Lord’s holiness my standard of good living, or do I look instead to the changing world around me?
These are not easy questions, friends. But they are good and holy questions.
What we praise shapes what we prioritize. If we want to enjoy healthy, happy, and holy Christian family lives, it starts with praising the right One – God Himself.
We praise God, and it blesses our families
Psalm 93, like every other psalm of praise, is all about God. It’s about his majesty, his goodness, and his perfection.
He is far above yes, and yet He is here with us. He cares about you. He cares about me. He cares about how we approach our marriages, our parenting, and our daily lives.
When praise shapes our hearts, the rest will flow from that.
Our parenting will flow from that and bring great blessing to our children.
Our home life will flow from that praise and help us experience the happy, healthy, and holy family life that we long for.
